About

On Sunday, May 4, 2014, the second annual Pinehurst Concours d’Elegance will take place at the world-renowned Pinehurst Resort and Golf Course.  The best of golf will meet the best of the automobile, while honoring some of the United States’ bravest men and women.

Three days of events are planned for the Pinehurst Concours d’Elegance starting on Friday, May 2 and culminating on Sunday, May 4  with the Pinehurst Concours d’Elegance, featuring 119 of the most historic automobiles and motorcycles from around the world.

Pinehurst is a world-class destination and an ideal locale for a Concours d’Elegance.  Known as the birthplace of golf in the United States, Pinehurst has hosted more single golf championships than any other site in America, including the U.S. Open, PGA Championship, Ryder Cup Matches, PGA Tour Championship and many others.  In an unprecedented decision by the USGA, it will serve as the site for both the U.S. Open and U.S. Women’s Open Championship in back-to-back weeks in 2014.  Pinehurst is accustomed to major events, hosting more than 40,000 people per day at the U.S. Open Championships and tens of thousands of others throughout the year.

Amenities at Pinehurst abound, from the quaint Village of Pinehurst to a multitude of hotels, including the flagship Carolina Inn at Pinehurst to the Pinehurst Golf Club, all within a short walk or shuttle ride, enabling patrons, entrants and residents to easily experience most every activity scheduled from May 3rd through 5th.

Pinehurst is centrally located in the Sandhills of North Carolina, with more than seven million people living within a 100-mile radius.  The area is renowned for its southern hospitality and pleasant, clement weather. It provides access to roads made for driving and touring, close proximity to some of the finest privately-held cars and collections, as well as several major airports and an array of accommodations from hotels to condominiums to private homes. The region is also home to technology, banking, and motorsports capitals of the United States.

The Pinehurst Concours d’Elegance will honor and give back to those stationed at Fort Bragg, home of the famed 82nd Airborne Division, as well as the primary training facility for the Army Special Operations Forces.  From World War II through current conflicts in the Middle East, tens of thousands of the military’s finest have lived and trained at Fort Bragg.  Currently, there are more than 57,000 active military personnel and families in the Fort Bragg area, located a mere 40 minutes away from Pinehurst.

Quotes

“We have something going for us in the Carolinas you just can’t find anywhere else in the United States. Part of our cultural fabric is wrapped around the automobile. Why do you think we have so much stock car racing in this area? It’s part of our heritage, part of our culture. People in our area are automobile focused – it may be race cars or show cars – but it is cars. The fans are going to come out to the Pinehurst Concours to see cars they’ve only seen in books, or maybe never heard of, or seen in social media. We’re built on a car culture here in the South that will make this inaugural Concours at Pinehurst Resort a tremendous success.”
